‘Bangle billionaire’ Carolyn Rafaelian asks $15M for Tribeca townhouse

Former “bangle billionaire” Carolyn Rafaelian has put her Tribeca townhouse on the market.

The six-story mansion at 156 Reade St. is asking $15 million — down from its $16.5 million ask last November. And, we hear, another price drop is expected later this week.

The townhouse price is slated to be slashed to $11.5 million — or $8.5 million for the top four residential floors and $4.5 million for the first two floors, which are zoned commercial, sources said.

The 6,800-square-foot townhouse is 25 feet wide and comes with eight bedrooms and 5½ bathrooms. Rafaelian and her husband Joe Triangelo bought it for $13.8 million, via an LLC, in 2015.

Rafaelian famously lost $900 million in less than two years and no longer works for Alex and Ani, the jewelry company she founded in 2004, according to Forbes. In 2017, Rafaelian was on the cover of Forbes as America’s richest self-made female entrepreneur. In 2018, her net worth was $1 billion. By last year, it was down to $100 million, Forbes reported.

The tricked-out townhouse comes with a private elevator, a glass staircase, radiant heated floors, a water filtration system, rooftop terrace and a “1,100-foot underground pipe which maintains a constant 52-degree interior ground temperature” year round, according to the listing.

There’s also a chef’s kitchen, open dining room and a living room with double-height ceilings and a wood burning fireplace. The listing broker is Douglas Elliman’s Andrew Azoulay.

Rafaelian also owns Belcourt, a Newport, RI, Gilded Age mansion that was modeled after the 17th-century French King Louis XIII’s hunting lodge at Versailles. It was then the home of suffragist/socialite Alva Vanderbilt. Rafaelian bought the home for $3.6 million in 2012. In 2019, Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, of “The Hunger Games,” married art dealer Cooke Maroney on the estate.
