Wild video captures Guardian Angel brawl on NYC subway

A Guardian Angel member has resigned from the volunteer group after he was captured on video getting into a scuffle with two subway passengers, one of whom he tried to “karate kick,” according to the group’s founder and video posted to Twitter.

The red-beret-wearing Angels member could be seen on a Q train in Midtown Thursday having some angry words with a group of passengers who had just attended a protest — including Patrick Bobilin, a candidate for the state assembly’s 76th District — before approaching them and appearing to throw a kick at them.

After Bobilin posted the video on Twitter, Angels head Curtis Sliwa told The Post that the member had “crossed the line” and offered his resignation soon after the incident.

“We train for this, we have regular training, you have to withstand verbal abuse and physical intimidation and only physically use your skills when breaking up others who are fighting, who are in disputes or who have committed crimes so [the Angel] clearly knew he had crossed the line,” Sliwa told The Post by phone Friday.

“In the Guardian Angels it’s one strike and that’s it, you just can’t do that, we have the trust of the people.”

Bobilin, who’s planning a second bid for the assembly’s 76th District next year after losing in November, told The Post the incident happened as he was headed home from a Stonewall Inn protest Thursday evening.

He said the Guardian Angels were at the demonstration, though not participating, when he ran into a pair of members on the Q train in Midtown.

Bobilin’s video shows him trading jabs with the Angel, who he knows from his neighborhood, about work they each do for the homeless before the vigilante walks closer to Bobilin, seated at the back of the train.

As the Angel tried to get up close to Bobilin and say something to him, the Upper East Side pol said he stuck out his foot so they could maintain a safe, 6-feet distance.

That’s when the Angel did “some sort of karate kick,” Bobilin said, causing a fellow straphanger to jump in and start throwing punches until a second Angel and another passenger stepped in and broke up the beatdown.

Sliwa said Bobilin regularly gets into public altercations with the Angels and has “dedicated part of his life to harassing us.”

Bobilin said he has no love lost for the Angels. He claims they have “stalked” the block where he lives and “harassed” him and his neighbors over their efforts to abolish the police and competing plans to address the homeless crisis on the Upper East Side.

The Angel in the clip did not immediately return a request for comment.
