Some New York COVID-19 vaccination sites to close due to snow

It’s snow-go Sunday for some state-run COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites, with an impending winter storm shuttering various locations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island, Gov. Cuomo says.

Some mass vaccination sites run by the state, including Yankee Stadium, Javits Center, Aqueduct Racetrack and the Westchester County Center, will remain open, as will city-run vaccine operations, officials said.

“Everyone with appointments can rest assured they will not lose their spots — all appointments will be rescheduled for later in the week and everyone will receive direct notification of these scheduling changes,” Cuomo said Saturday evening.

COVID-19 testing sites at Glen Island in New Rochelle; Bronx Bay Plaza; Lehman College; Seaview Avenue on Staten Island; Fountain Avenue in Brooklyn and Long Island test sites at Jones Beach and Stony Brook will close for the day. COVID testing at Aqueduct will close because of the storm, according to the governor.

Seven community-based “pop-up” vaccination sites at church in The Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens will also close for the day, Cuomo’s office said.

Mayor de Blasio suspended alternate side parking for the week and urged New Yorkers to stay off the roads, saying the storm could sock the city with 8 inches of snow for what is expected to be a messy Super Bowl Sunday.

“Tomorrow, we need people to stay off the roads, especially for your own safety because it will be slick out there,” he said in a phone interview with NY1.

Restaurants will remain open for outdoor dining and takeout, but temporary seating constructed in the roadways will be closed so plows can pass.

Vaccination centers will also remain open, de Blasio said.

“Based on the information we have now, all vaccination appointments will be on schedule for tomorrow and Monday,” he said, adding that he also expects in-person schooling to happen Monday.
