It was a happy ending for this teen and his chicken.
A Mississippi teen was recently reunited with his pet rooster after it went missing in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel in Alabama.
Thomas Ramsey, 18, was headed home from a Civil War reenactment in Springhill, Tennessee, and stopped for lunch at a Cracker Barrel in Cullman, Alabama with is friends and his rooster, Peep, on Jan. 31, The Cullman Times reported.
Ramsey told the outlet he left the rooster on a leash tied to his truck, as he has done many times before, and went inside the restaurant with his friends.
When the group returned to the car an hour later, Peep was gone.
“I went back into the Cracker Barrel and it was very hard for me to say this with a straight face, even though I was panicking: ‘Do you have cameras in the parking lot? I think someone stole my chicken,’” Ramsey recalled.
He drove around the area several times in search of Peep, and even checked a local farmer’s chicken coop with no luck.
Fortunately, about 30 minutes away from his home, Ramsey received good news that a man found Peep in the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel he visited earlier.
Farmer John Watson drove with Peep to Birmingham where the rooster reunited with Ramsey.
“I believe in paying it forward,” Watson told The Cullman Times. “Yes, it was ‘just a chicken,’ but it was his and he clearly cared for it.”
