“The Spanx legging is a tried and true customer favorite and the faux leather version is so on trend with all the leather we’re seeing this fall,” Kate Bellman, Nordstrom’s Managing Fashion Editor, told the Post. “Chic yet edgy, the legging pairs perfectly under an oversized blouse or shirtdress and makes a statement with a pointed stiletto for a night out or polished flat for running about town.”
As someone who has had their fair share of cheap, not-so-nice black bottoms in the past, I was thrilled to receive my pair of Spanx’s faux leather leggings last year.
We’re getting real here — compression-like leggings are optimal if you’re experiencing bloating or a “food baby” after a hearty meal. Also, they’re wonderful to wear during a high-intensity workout if you prefer keeping things tucked in and form-fitting to your body.
- Size options: X-Small Petite, X-Small-X-Large (Regular)
- A note on sizing: Size up; they run somewhat small (I’m typically an XS and I wear an S in Spanx)
What makes them different from ones from Lululemon or other high-performance leggings? For starters, its signature Power Waistband and no center seam provide a subtly sexy look that’s void of awkward lines and undergarment exposure. Plus, its glossy finish is a large selling point; it’s the not-leggings-but-leggings look that provides the same look like black leather pants.
Or, as I like to say, a posh Sandy from “Grease.”
Contrary to popular demand, I’ve never stepped foot into Lululemon and purchased a pair of the much-talked-about Align Leggings. In fact, most of my leggings are from T.J.Maxx and Marshall’s (which I love). But, Spanx takes the cake for versatility and breathability. The leggings aren’t too ‘workout Barbie’ to the point where you can’t wear them outside of the gym, nor are they too tight and jeans-like (you can still squat in them).
With Nordstrom’s Sale, you won’t be snagging these for the full $98 price, either. Now’s the time to purchase them for an elevated athleisure staple you’ll reach for again and again. Not to mention, they are ideal if you’re working from home or desiring something comfortable and corporate-appropriate to transition back to the office into.
After all, we all know the nice blouse and pajama shorts look won’t cut it anymore.
It’s good to note that if you’re not into more snug leggings, these ones from Spanx won’t be for you. It took me some time to become used to the fit, but once I did, I’m happy I have shapewear apparel in my wardrobe. Even as someone who’s petite and has never worn shapewear under a dress or skirt, the pair gives you a confidence boost like no other.
Add Spanx’s faux leather leggings to your cart before the Anniversary Sale ends on July 28. Take it from me, someone who swears by the leggings and has worn them for a year to date.
