The 2021 Mets have hit rock bottom.
They started the weekend in first place. They ended the weekend in third place. The Phillies swept the Mets, whose feeble offense cannot score runs. They looked lifeless on Sunday, losing seven of their past eight games. While Pete Alonso is remaining positive, Mets fans are feeling pretty down right now. A three-month stay in first place has quickly become a 2.5-game deficit.
But there are still 51 games remaining, so not all hope is lost yet. We tried to relay that on the latest episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me in our first live show, which we recorded from Katch Astoria. We had listeners and fans on the show for trivia with giveaways and a trip to the Nelson Figueroa Spanish Academy.
Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake & Figgie:
- ROCK BOTTOM: Mets get swept by the Phillies in Philly. The offense has been hard to watch. Nobody changes their approach with runners in scoring position and they fail to drive runners home. Should fans still have hope? Can this team still turn their season back around? Does Luis Rojas deserve blame?
- TRIVIA/GIVEAWAYS: We do some Mets trivia for people in the crowd at Katch Astoria. They come to the stage and answer questions to get Amazin’ But True shirts, coasters, koozies, bobbleheads and a Michael Conforto signed ball.
- NELSON FIGUEROA SPANISH ACADEMY: Spanish girls come to the stage to show me how to speak Spanish correctly and make me look bad.
- METS RAP: I bring my alter ego J-Swizzy out for a Mets rap, which has every Mets player referenced in the rhymes.
