The Mets are now 1-0 since their owner publicly roasted their offense on Twitter. Maybe Steve Cohen’s tweet could ignite a fire in a Mets team that has let the NL East slip away from them. With 42 games to play and a 4 1/2 game deficit in the division, the Mets will need to use Cohen’s message as fuel to get themselves back in the playoff conversation.
That started with a much-needed win in the Bay on Wednesday, but that only gets the Mets back to .500. It’s going to take a heck of a run in these final six weeks to turn the ship back around and get a Jacob deGrom-less Mets team into the postseason.
To talk about the win and a couple of tweets that set Mets Twitter on fire Wednesday, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with me and former Met Nelson Figueroa. You are going to want to get locked into this episode, because Nelson goes on an all-time great rant.
Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake & Figgie:
- MUCH-NEEDED WIN: Things could have got uglier if the Mets did not come back to win Wednesday’s game in San Francisco. Nice to see Michael Conforto come up with a big hit. Kevin Pillar needed that homer. They need Pete Alonso to be OK.
- COHEN TWEET/FIGGIE RANT: Figgie goes on his first rant in podcast history as he reacts to tweets from Steve Cohen and beat reporter Tim Healey. He gets fired up and cranks up the volume! Figgie feels Cohen and the Mets did not do enough at the trade deadline to warrant him tweeting about how bad the offense has been. The other teams got better and the Mets did not do enough.
- YOU GOT MAIL: We play voicemails from listeners and respond to emails on the future of the team. What needs to change? I also learn what a sofrito is. Sarah McCrory also comes at Figgie for not following her back on Twitter.
