Just as the Mets’ lineup was beginning to click with a new-look top of the order, Brandon Nimmo was removed in the top of the second inning from Saturday’s matinee against the Nationals with what the team said was right hamstring tightness.
Albert Almora Jr. replaced Nimmo, who extended his hitting streak to four games Saturday, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base before appearing to pull up lame while rounding third. He also slipped on third base earlier in the game, but it didn’t seem to affect him.
Nimmo, who has bat .318 with two stolen bases in his last seven games, has forged a strong 1-2 punch in the lineup with Jonathan Villar leading off. Villar and Nimmo had accounted for three of the Mets’ six runs when Nimmo exited the game.
