Too Faced, one of Sephora’s bestselling brands, launched a new Em-Power Lipstick collection on Friday, with 12 incredibly pigmented shades and five unique liners.
The brand describes its new collection as “creamy, hydrating and long-wearing for up to 12 hours,” since the feather-resistant, non-bleeding formulation also helps to soften the appearance of lip lines.
“A bold lip has a transformative power that can immediately instill confidence, self-esteem and boss energy when you need it the most—with one swipe, Jerrod Blandino, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Too Faced, told The Post. “Lady Bold is created to take that empowering feeling to the next level by pushing technology and innovation to recreate what a lipstick could be.”
What’s more, there’s up to a 42% pigment load and a clear wax base—almost triple the pigment load of what a traditional lipstick has, per Blandino. “The result is a totally bold, empowering lipstick, with a comfortable weightless feel,” he adds.
As a lipstick aficionado, swatching shades at Sephora is one of my favorite pastimes. So, when Too Faced announced the new Em-Power collection, I had to try the gorgeous red and pink packaging for myself.
From the start, I was honestly impressed with Too Faced’s lipstick formulation. I’ve never tried any of its lipsticks — mainly because I swear by NARS’ “Raquel” Audacious Lipstick, Glossier’s “Trench” Ultralip and Too Faced’s new Lip Injection Power Plumping Liquid Lip Balm — but I’m so glad I tried the new collection.
When Too Faced says pigment, they mean pigment. This lipstick didn’t budge all day. It felt like a lip product a Hollywood star would wear because the color appeared rich and glamorous on my skin. It can definitely elevate any neutral look into a more glam one.
Also, it smells divine, just like candy. I’ve had lip products that tasted like bubblegum cough medicine and just not great. But the Em-Power line is one I don’t mind reapplying — not that I have too much, thanks to its wonderful pigment.
To help make your shopping experience more seamless, I tried five of Too Faced’s new lipsticks and five of its liners, which are coming soon.
Too Faced ‘Hype Woman’ Lady Bold Em-Power Pigment Lipstick, $24
Let’s start with the most natural shade I tried: Too Faced’s “Hype Woman” Lipstick. It’s one I would probably go to when looking at all the options, notably because it enhances the natural color of my lips.
For this reason, I recommend this shade if you have fair skin and want to amp up your lips all day.
Too Faced ‘Level Up’ Lady Bold Em-Power Pigment Lipstick, $24
Interestingly, Too Faced’s “Level Up” Lipstick was my favorite shade I tried. It reminds me of many hues already in my makeup arsenal, and I like that it’s great all year round. Plus, it gave me a healthy glow because it was a bit more coral than “Hype Woman.”
Too Faced ‘Trailblazer’ Lady Bold Em-Power Pigment Lipstick, $24
When I first applied this shade, I thought to myself, “This is ideal for darker skin tones.” But, it grew on me, although it’s a shade outside of my comfort zone. I think it’s a beautiful statement as we approach fall, even on fair skin like mine.
Too Faced ‘You Do You’ Lady Bold Em-Power Pigment Lipstick, $24
You know what they say about honesty. To be frank, this was my least favorite shade. While “You Do You” has the same pigment as the others in the collection, I’m not about vibrant red lipstick. But some people are, and this is perfect for those who want a spicy red lip.
Too Faced ‘Lady Bold’ Em-Power Pigment Lipstick, $24
While I’m not gung-ho on red lips, this was, by far, a better shade for me compared to “You Do You.” A confident red, if you will.
When paired with the matching lip liner (coming soon), I felt like a pro applying the bold color on my lips. And, it would be great with a clear gloss, like Too Faced’s Lip Injection, to make it a bit more flirty and wearable on fair skin.
