Are you single and need a plus-one to a wedding or some other social event in a hurry to appear happy and put together to your friends and family?
Well, Tinder has got you covered.
A new feature recently debuted on the dating app called Plus One that allows users to let others know they are either looking for a date to take to a soirée or are actually willing and able to attend another person’s big event.
Tinder partnered with the wedding planning site Wedding Wire to launch Plus One. The Tinder add-on is on the app’s Explore page and it lets users play interactive games instead of just chatting.
“We know many of our members are looking for a Plus One for their next wedding and we’re excited to now give them a way to do exactly that on Tinder,” Tinder’s VP of product innovation Kyle Miller said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to join Tinder in introducing a new way to find a wedding date with Plus One, and also offer a fun way to help members get back into the swing of attending weddings with a Wedding Guest Grant,” Jeffra Trumpower, senior director of creative marketing for Wedding Wire added.
Trumpower continued, “By teaming up with Tinder, we hope to make this wedding season the best yet for guests and their dates.”
Turns out, fans either love or hate the new feature, with several calling it “desperate.”
“Tinder is adding a feature to assist its users to find wedding dates OR suggest that they’re willing to be one. I just want to know what kind of person is going to invite a stranger to a wedding as their first date,” one user tweeted.
“That makes me feel rather odd. Is a wedding considered an acceptable ‘date’ venue? I’d rather go to a wedding alone than take a plus one I met on Tinder and hardly knew,” another user wrote.
“Why would anyone go to a wedding for a first date? You have to be truly desperate,” added one person.
