Sam Darnold exited Sunday’s Panthers win over the Falcons in the middle of the fourth quarter with a concussion.
Darnold, the former Jets quarterback, took a hit while trying to run. His head snapped forward then hit the turf. P.J. Walker came in at quarterback for the Panthers.
Darnold, 24, has had a miserable season in Carolina. He was benched for Walker last week against the Giants after going 16-for-25 with an interception, prompting Deshaun Watson trade rumors. Now, he’ll be off the field again, though through no fault of his own.
The injury took place as the Panthers were trying to drive and holding onto a 19-10 lead. They ended up winning 19-13 to snap a four-game losing streak.
Darnold left the game having gone 13-for-24 for 129 yards. He also ran eight times for 66 yards, the last of those being the play on which the injury occurred.
