Tiger Woods is done as a full-time golfer, but says he is channeling Ben Hogan in his eventual return to the links.
“I think something that is realistic is playing the tour one day — never full time, ever again — but pick and choose, just like Mr. Hogan did. Pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that,” Woods said.
“You practice around that, and you gear yourself up for that. I think that’s how I’m going to have to play it from now on. It’s an unfortunate reality, but it’s my reality. And I understand it, and I accept it,” he continued.
The litany of Woods’ injuries from his single-car accident in the Los Angeles area included a shattered ankle and two leg fractures.
“It was very fortunate that Mr. Woods was able to come out of this alive,” said Deputy Carlos Gonzalez, who was first on the scene, at the time.
Woods is planning to speak to reporters Tuesday morning at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
Last week, posted a video of himself hitting golf balls. While The Masters will, obviously, be one of the tournaments that Woods “picks and chooses” going forward, golf fans are eager to see if he will make it back for Augusta in April 2022.
