A teenage boy was gunned down outside of a Virginia high school after a varsity basketball game on Tuesday night, a report said.
The young victim was killed during “some type of altercation” in the parking lot of Menchville High School in the city of Newport News, WAVY-TV reported, citing police.
The violence broke out after Menchville boy’s varsity basketball team lost their game to rival Woodside, the report said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the victim was a player.
The motive for the deadly shooting was also unclear as of early Wednesday.
Following the boy’s death, a crowd gathered in the parking lot hugging and consoling each other, the news station reported.

Police did not release any suspect information.
Both high schools will be closed Wednesday as a result of the homicide.
