You’ve been applying your makeup all wrong and it’s making you look a LOT older

Makeup is one of the quickest ways to instantly transform your face – with many people using clever techniques to make them look younger.

But it turns out that we’ve actually been applying our makeup all wrong… and it’s making us look older!

Prepare to be shocked and second-guess everything you’ve been doing.

A professional makeup artist has revealed that the biggest mistakes we are making are in the lips.

The most serious errors are made with lipstick and lip liner.

Applying these wrong can result in not only the makeup not lasting long enough, but it can also add years to your face.

So if you’re a fan of lip liner, overlining your lips and matte lipstick, read on.

Makeup artist for Marc Jacobs Beauty, Diane Kendal, revealed to Harpers Bazaar the common lipstick errors all women make and the things you need to avoid for a youth-enhancing pout.

Lip liner

Lipstick isn’t complete without a matching lip liner, right?!

But for those wearing lip liner, you might be surprised to know that this could actually be making you look older.

Diane Kendal said: “I feel that it is often nicer to not use a traditional lip liner at all.
“I think it provides a younger-looking, fresher finish.”

So if you’re fed up with looking old, it might be time to ditch the liner!

Overdrawing

Thanks to celebs such as Kylie Jenner, many of us are overlining our lips to make our pouts appear plumper.

However, it turns out that overdrawing your lips is actually adding years to your look.

But Diane said: “People often overdraw their lips and dark lip liner can be really aging.

“It can look very harsh, especially on older women when you naturally start getting lines.”

So by over lining your lips you are actually drawing attention to these lines and making yourself look older than you actually are.

Dry formulas

If you’re a fan of matte lipstick, you might want to have a re-think if you want to look younger.

It appears it’s all about gloss and balms to achieve a younger look.

Diane explained: “There are liquid lipsticks that give that drying effect.

“That dryness can age your lips, emphasizing lines, which is why you need a moisturizing formula.”

So throw out your matte lippies and go for something with more shine to make you look that bit younger.

Can you believe you’ve been making such huge mistakes and had no idea?!
