Lily Collins fans were angered after it was announced that Rooney Mara was cast as Audrey Hepburn in an upcoming Apple Studios biopic — with many arguing that the star of the Netflix series would be better suited for the role.

Deadline reported that the bombshell project first dropped on Thursday night.
Along with portraying the “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” actress, Mara, 36, will also serve as a producer on the yet-to-be named flick. Meanwhile, the film will be is slated to be directed by “Call Me By Your Name” director Luca Guadagnino while Michael Mitnick, the EP of HBO series “Vinyl,” will be sitting in the writer’s chair.
And while plot details have yet to be revealed, the “Emily In Paris” Twitterati were none too pleased with the casting decision.
“lily collins this was supposed to be YOUUUU,” lamented one crestfallen fan.
“Lily Collins did everything except produce a biopic starring her as Audrey Hepburn,” fumed another. “I know she mad Rooney Mara beat her to the punch.”
They also shared pics of Collins, 32, perfectly re-creating iconic scenes from the screen legend’s various films.
However, some critics argued that Rooney, who was nominated for a best actress Oscar for her work in Carol (2015), was better equipped to portray Hollywood’s legendary leading lady.
“Rooney is the better actress,” argued one. “I love Lily and she can carry Emily in Paris, but can you imagine her carrying Carol? i can’t.”
Indeed, many wondered if Collins’ role in the divisive dramedy “Emily in Paris” had torpedoed the former model’s chances of landing more serious roles
However, one Collins die-hard argued if Kristen Stewart could pull of playing Princess Diana in “Spencer,” then Collins could follow suit with Hepburn if given the chance.
Born in Belgium in 1929, Hepburn was famous for starring in hit films of the 1950s and 60s, including “Sabrina,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “My Fair Lady” and “Wait Until Dark.”
The star was nominated for an Academy Award for best actress five times during her career, winning in 1953 for her role in “Roman Holiday.”
Not just a film icon, Hepburn was also a tireless advocate for children’s rights, becoming UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador in 1989, and receiving AMPAS’ Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1993. She died of cancer in 1993 at the age of 63.
