Protesting for peace in Gaza

Censuring the Palestinian cause

Boston, Mass. — Hundreds of Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered once again Sunday in Copley Square asking for the most basic of human rights: peace. It astounds me that it is something we even have to rally for.

Currently, a child is killed every 10 minutes in Gaza. A total of 4,650 children have been murdered since Oct. 7. 50% of the 2.2 million Palestinians that reside in Gaza are children. A ceasefire is the least we should be calling for! How has it come to this?

As Steinbeck lamented, “All war is a symptom of man’s failure as a thinking animal.” Yet here we are, mouths agape, witnessing a completely preventable genocide unfold. Shamefully, it is the people in the streets demanding justice and accountability, not our government representatives. The few politicians who have dared to step outside of the pro-Israeli lobby have been slandered as “anti-Semitic”.

Rashida Tlaib was censured by the House just last week. Her crime? She merely stated a well-known motto calling for the liberation of Palestine from Israeli apartheid, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!”

Ceasefire now

In fact this slogan, along with “ceasefire now”, was the main rallying cry at the Pro-Palestinian protest held in Copley Square on Sunday. The majority of Americans demand the U.S. government stop funding the apartheid state of Israel because they are committing war crimes.

In fact, the Center for Constitutional Rights is suing Joe Biden and two other cabinet members for failing to prevent as well as aiding and abetting genocide in Gaza. Clearly internal and international pressure is mounting, the question is: how much more glaringly obvious does it have to become that Israel’s “war on HAMAS” is actually a war on all Palestinians?

Blatant Hypocrisy

On March 10, 2022, Hillary Clinton posted on X, “If Russian leadership would rather not be accused of committing war crimes, they should stop bombing hospitals.” Alarmingly, she is one of many political figures resistant to the idea of a ceasefire. The irony is, like the Russian military, the Israeli army is committing war crimes such as bombing hospitals and targeting innocent civilians.

The hypocrisy has not been lost on the U.S. and global population at large. U.S. credibility is being murdered right alongside Palestinian babies. It is abundantly clear that U.S. politicians support Israeli interests even above their own constituent’s.

America’s unwavering support for Israel only strengthens global resolve to protest. When asked how many times they would march, one protester from Boston commented, “We will march everyday until a ceasefire is called, our government pulls funding from Israel and holds Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet of criminal warmongers accountable for their vicious, inhumane war crimes.”

As the wise Nelson Mandela said, “We know too well our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians”. U.S. streets will be full of protesters until the American values of “freedom and justice for all” are once again represented in our capital.
