The futuristic brand, known as Ottolinger, presented their Spring/Summer 2023 collection during Paris Fashion Week on Sunday, Oct. 2. Set in a gallery in downtown Paris, the seating was a little out of the ordinary for a fashion show, with editors, photographers and the remaining attendees taking their places on a stockpile of mattresses.
As the models walked down the runway to an echoing techno beat, the plain white background accentuated their vibrancy.
Ottolinger is a Berlin-based brand that specializes in serving sci-fi with a sexual twist, and this Spring/Summer collection was no exception. Skintight was the theme of the evening in their 35-piece collection.
Designers Christa Bösch and Cosima Gadient explained that the vision behind their designs was to make guests feel like they were waking up and heading out into the world, animated and full of light and energy. “‘It’s like in the morning when there’s really warm light and you have a good feeling about the day. You start the day upbeat, you go off and you sign a deal—it’s not an average day—it’s a really good day,’ said Gadient with a laugh.”
The opening look featured a deconstructed belt-meets-bra top (a piece that reappeared in several different variations) and was paired with low-rise recycled polyester trousers that resembled leather.
Figure hugging bodysuits, matching trompe l’oeil sets and biker jacket renditions were accented by extended rubber straps and stylish, sharp-pointed stilettos.
As the Y2K trend continues to notably impact fashion and streetwear, it could be safe to assume that this also played a role in influencing these designers’ conceptual ideas for this ready-to-wear collection. Almost every piece was matched with regal blues and golden yellow accents, layering, and reflective eyewear to flawlessly encapsulate the aura of a fierce woman.
It is Ottolinger’s commitment to pushing boundaries and reinventing the image of beauty that both lures and keeps audiences wanting more with every collection. It won’t be long until the Berlin-based brand reaches new heights with its next collection.
